It is understood that silicone is mostly used in aerospace, construction, electronics and other fields, and the earliest use of silicone in cosmetics began in 1950 when Dow Corning produced hand cream. Today, the silicone ingredients that have been successfully developed for cosmetics include: dimethyl polysiloxane, methyl phenyl polysiloxane, hydrogen silicone oil, cyclic polysiloxane, methyl polysiloxane emulsion, polyether modified silicone oil, alkyl modified silicone oil, amino modified silicone oil, silicone wax, silicone resin and silicone treated powder, etc. These silicone derivatives have been widely used in cosmetics such as perfume, hair wax, conditioner, lipstick, shaving cream, deodorant, eye shadow, nail polish and sunscreen.


"Since silicone has excellent properties such as lubricity, hydrophobicity, physiological inertness, UV resistance and compatibility, it accounts for a larger proportion of the ingredients in conditioner products, about 1.5%-2.0% in shampoos, and only 0.5%-3% in skin care creams and lotions." Zhang Taijun added.


Although silicone is used in many washing and personal care products, it is not ranked first in the product ingredient list, and its derivative ingredients are more, and the amount used is very limited.
