Discipline evolution
The foreign language education of Nanjing University of Posts and Telecommunications originated from the foreign language specialized course established by Nanjing University of Posts and telecommunications in 1960, the foreign language teaching and research office established in 1988, developed into the foreign language department in 1998, established in 2000, and established the Foreign Language Institute in 2008. At present, the college has three undergraduate majors of "English", "Japanese" and "translation". In 2012, the English major was approved as "specialty with characteristics of Jiangsu Province". In the same year, the College of foreign languages obtained the master's degree authorization point of "curriculum and teaching theory" of the second level discipline, with two directions of "English education" and "English translation (Scientific English translation)". In 2018, the college was approved as the first level of foreign language and literature Master degree authorization point of discipline and master degree authorization point of translation major.
Subject teachers
At present, there are 13 professors and 40 associate professors. More than 90% of the teachers in the professional department have a doctor's degree or are studying for a doctor's degree. There are 18 tutors for master's degree, of which 55.6% are senior professional and technical positions, and 89% have doctoral degree tutors. The professional structure, age structure, professional title structure and academic background structure of the academic team are reasonable, showing the characteristics of knowledge diversification, specialization, complementary advantages and strong cohesion.
At present, there are 2 young and middle-aged science and technology leaders in "333 high-level talent training project" of Jiangsu Province, 2 young and middle-aged academic leaders in "blue and green project" of Jiangsu University, and 1 outstanding young backbone teacher in "blue and green project" of Jiangsu Province. So far, more than 80 teachers have been selected to study in the United States, Britain, Canada, Australia, Singapore and other countries or receive short-term training.
Research papers and Awards
Since 2016, teachers have published more than 120 papers in foreign language core journals, SSCI and CSSCI source journals, and more than 40 works, translations, reference books and textbooks. New World College English Series reading and writing course 1-4 was selected as the national planning textbook for undergraduate higher education during the 12th Five Year Plan period. The monograph "chunk teaching method: innovative practice of college oral English Teaching" won the third prize of the 15th Jiangsu Provincial outstanding achievements in philosophy and Social Sciences, and a number of achievements won the third prize of Jiangsu Provincial Educational Science Research (Philosophy and Social Sciences in Colleges and universities). Presided over or completed 7 projects of national social science fund, 44 projects of Ministry of education, humanities and Social Sciences, Provincial Social Sciences, etc.

At present, the first level discipline of foreign language and literature enrolls master's degree students in four disciplines: Foreign Literature (British and American Literature), foreign linguistics and applied linguistics, translatology, comparative literature and cross-cultural research. The disciplines are as follows.
1. The subject of foreign literature research mainly focuses on the works of British and American writers, with the study of ethnic literature and gender literature as its characteristics, and covers the study of British and American novels, dramas and poems.
2. The subject of foreign linguistics and applied linguistics mainly focuses on theoretical linguistics and applied linguistics, with phonology, pragmatics, semantics and applied linguistics as its characteristics, including Polish semantic school research, optimality theory, identity construction, chunk theory, emergence theory and concept transfer research.
3. The subject of translatology research is mainly characterized by translation theory research and English-Chinese contrastive translation, including modern translation theory research, Chinese novel English translation comparative research, Chinese classics translation research, terminology translation research, etc.
4. Comparative literature and cross-cultural studies focuses on the comparison of Chinese and foreign writers' works, literary thoughts and theories, and features the parallel, influence and translation of modern Chinese and foreign literature, covering the comparative studies of Chinese and foreign novels, poems, dramas, literary theories and cultures.
Student development
In the past two years, the students have been approved four projects of scientific research and practical innovation in Jiangsu Province; one student thesis has been awarded the university level excellent postgraduate dissertation; one student has been admitted to Nanjing Normal University for doctoral degree. For three consecutive years, one student has won a national scholarship of 20000 yuan, accounting for 17% of the graduate students of the same grade; most of the graduates are employed by civil servants, colleges and universities, middle schools, research institutes, international trade groups, independent Entrepreneurship (educational institutions), etc.
