Cosmetics and skin care products do go bad for a
variety of reasons. According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA),
skin care products can degrade over time if they need to be scooped out with
your fingers, which introduces microorganisms and moisture that make it easier
for bacteria and fungi (yeast) to grow. Temperature changes and exposure to
sunlight and air can cause the product to develop odor and change its color and
texture.
