Carbo is a super macromolecular acrylic polymer.
Therefore, ultra-large molecular weight and internal cross-linking
polymerization form polyacrylic acid molecules with a diameter of micron. After
being neutralized by water, polyacrylic acid turns into sodium salt, and the
interior repels each other, and the entire molecular skeleton unfolds. Among
them, the carbonyl group acts as a hydrogen bond, firmly grasping the water.
Then it becomes a small jelly-like microgel. These little jellies pile together
to give the whole solution a thick, textured texture. So in cosmetics, we call
carbomer and similar ingredients "thickeners".
