Octamethylcyclotetrasiloxane (D4), colorless transparent or milky white liquid, flammable, no odor, is a product prepared by hydrolysis and synthesis of dimethyldichlorosilane, a compound obtained by separation and rectification, and is an important intermediate in the silicone industry. Similar rings to D4 are D3/D5/D6, and if these are mixed with D4, they are often called DMCs.
