Topical Ingredients & Formulations

Also at Stand 4H64, Dow Corning is presenting other highlights from its extensive portfolio. These include the unique digital Topical Formulation Box and two topical ingredients from this online tool:

A solid resin film-former

A semi-occlusive wax for texture modification

Dow is previewing its upcoming line of Dow Corning® brand SilAc Hybrid Pressure Sensitive Adhesives (PSAs) for transdermal drug delivery applications. By combining silicone and acrylic, these innovative PSAs deliver efficient drug diffusion and solubility while retaining good chemical and physical stability. This new, patented system will complement Dow Corning’s existing range of BIO-PSA adhesives.

Silicone Film-formers

Further underscoring its industry leadership in material science, Dow Corning is giving a presentation at the Exhibitor Showcase in Hall 2C70, at 11:00 a.m. on Oct. 5. Marc Eeman, healthcare skin application designer for Dow Corning, will present on the topic “Dow Corning’s Innovative silicone film-formers for topical pharmaceutical solutions,” including key film attributes and their impact on topical skin delivery of established pharmaceutical actives.

In conjunction with the Dow Chemical Company, Dow Corning is spotlighting the advantages of adding its silicone-based materials to Dow’s drug delivery and consumer healthcare offerings. A recent restructuring made Dow Corning a wholly owned Dow subsidiary to take advantage of strong synergies between the two organizations. The combined entity offers customers a broader range of differentiated, high-value solutions, and access to new technologies and additional research & development capabilities.

Global Strategic Marketing Director, Gary Lord said:

"Dow Corning continues to address the needs of both formulators and regulators with an expanding range of silicone-based solutions for drug delivery and consumer healthcare applications. We help formulators support efficacy and patient compliance by assisting with effective delivery using the optimal form. At the same time, we can supply the relevant information for each application that is required by regulators. As an innovator and collaborative partner to the industry, Dow Corning works tirelessly to stay ahead of upcoming requirements."

Innovative Formulations for Acne Management

As consumers become more proactive about their own health and well-being, they are looking for performant over-the-counter (OTC) products to mitigate acne. To help formulators meet this increasing demand, Dow Corning created a kit containing formulations featuring Dow Corning Topical Ingredients:

Anti-acne Spot Pen – an easy-to-spread hydrogel with a smooth, non-tacky feel

Acne MatteSerum – a mattifying emulsion with reduced tackiness

Acne Purifying Toner – a simple, cost-effective formulation that soothes and cleanses

Acne Spray – a quick-drying spray that leaves a long-lasting film

New Blends for Skin Barrier Applications

Dow Corning’s new family of blends helps customers develop and gain approval for topical solutions that deliver comfort and protection. Dow Corning® MG 2107 and MG 2110 Silicone Blends are breathable film-formers with good wash-off resistance for skin barrier applications. These products provide a low-tack, non-occlusive film on the skin. A complementary product, Dow Corning® MG 2001 Silicone Blend, is an efficient, non-stinging cleaning agent with a silky smooth after-feel for comfortable adhesive and film removal. These innovative products can help provide better benefits and improve quality of life for patients.

Topical Portfolio

The company’s extensive portfolio of topical ingredients is designed for topical OTC and consumer healthcare products that treat scars, stretch marks, acne and other skin conditions. They are produced at defined manufacturing sites with healthcare oversight, audits and testing to assure quality. At CPHi, Dow Corning is featuring the Topical Formulation Box, Formulating with Fascinating Silicone, which is a convenient, web-based tool that showcases novel ideas for product forms and unique textures using silicone materials. The company is featuring two key products from the Topical Formulation Box:

Dow Corning® TI-7012 Solid Resin – A film former that creates a permeable, breathable film with excellent resistance to wash-off and sebum. It is long-lasting and non-occlusive.

Dow Corning® TI-4021 Semi-Occlusive Wax – A unique product that acts as a rheology and texture modifier as well as a structuring agent. It provides wash-off resistance and is highly compatible with silicone and organic materials.

In addition to the topical ingredients and acne management formulations mentioned above, Dow Corning is offering demo samples of raw materials and formulations made with Dow Corning TI-7012 Solid Resin and Dow Corning TI-4021 Semi-Occlusive Wax at its stand.
