Caprylyl methicone is a clear, colorless liquid which is composed of trisiloxane and octyl group attached to the silicon atom in the middle position. It is low molecular weight, low viscosity with moderate volatility. It has good compatibility with organic UV filter making it easily to formulate in sun protection formulations. The compact trisiloxane backbone provides a light, non-greasy skin-feel and improves spreadability.
Due to these properties, caprylyl methicone is highly used in Transparent Smooth Sunscreen Stick formulation to provide smooth skin-feel with easily glide on skin.
