IOTA D5 Cyclopentasiloxane (Chemical Name:
Cyclopentasiloxane, CAS Number: 541-02-6) is a multifunctional ingredient
widely used in cosmetics and personal care products. As a volatile
polydimethylcyclosiloxane, IOTA D5 is primarily composed of decamethylcyclopentasiloxane,
characterized by its colorless, transparent, odorless, and non-greasy
properties. It provides excellent spreadability and a soft, silky feel to the
skin. Its technical specifications include a colorless transparent liquid
appearance, a color value (Hazen) of less than 20, a viscosity of approximately
3.9 mm²/s at 25°C, a relative density of about 0.95 at 25°C, heavy metal
content (expressed as Pb) below 5 ppm, and a flash point (closed cup) of 80°C.
These properties make it an ideal choice for cosmetic formulations.
In antiperspirants and deodorants, IOTA D5 acts as a transient carrier for active salts, enabling rapid evaporation and even distribution of active ingredients on the skin surface, providing long-lasting deodorizing effects. The recommended dosage is 3-10%, ensuring efficacy without burdening the skin. In hair care products, IOTA D5 significantly improves wet combability, making hair easier to manage without leaving residue, with a recommended dosage of 1-5%.
In skin care, IOTA D5 serves as a non-comedogenic emollient and drug carrier, helping active ingredients penetrate the skin more effectively while providing a lightweight texture and silky touch. The recommended dosage is 3-10%, suitable for creams, lotions, and serums. Additionally, IOTA D5 is widely used in perfumes as a fragrance carrier, helping to evenly release scents and provide a smooth, non-cooling sensation on the skin, with a recommended dosage of 0.5-3%.
IOTA D5 is available in various packaging options, including 200L iron drums (net weight 190KG) and 1000L IBC containers (net weight 950KG), facilitating transportation and storage. It is recommended to store IOTA D5 in its original sealed container at temperatures between +5°C and +30°C, with a shelf life of 2 years from the production date. Its stable chemical properties and broad application scenarios make IOTA D5 an indispensable ingredient in the cosmetics and personal care industry.
