Hexamethyldisiloxane: From Laboratory to Industrial Production

Hits: 20 img

Hexamethyldisiloxane (MM), an important organosilicon compound, has undergone a long and hard journey from laboratory discovery to industrial production.

The discovery of MM dates back to the early 20th century when scientists accidentally identified this simple-structured compound while studying organosilicon compounds. As research into MM's properties deepened, its applications were gradually uncovered, leading to industrial production.

MM's production process has evolved from simple to complex. Early methods primarily used the direct process, where silicon powder reacted with chloromethane to produce methylchlorosilane, followed by hydrolysis and condensation to obtain MM. Modern methods mainly use the indirect process, where silicon powder reacts with methanol to produce trimethoxysilane, which then reacts with hexamethyldisilazane to produce MM.

In the future, MM production technology will focus on green and sustainable practices, high efficiency and energy savings, and automation and intelligence. Developing green production processes will reduce pollution and promote sustainability. Improving production efficiency and reducing energy consumption will lower costs. Automating and intelligentizing production processes will enhance efficiency and product quality.
