Xi'an University of Posts and telecommunications was founded in the early days of the founding of the people's Republic of China. In 1959, Xi'an University of Posts and telecommunications was established with the approval of the State Council. The university has been subordinate to the Ministry of Posts and telecommunications and the Ministry of information industry. In 2000, it was transferred to Shaanxi Province, renamed Xi'an University of Posts and telecommunications in 2012. In 2013, it was jointly established by the people's Government of Shaanxi Province and the Ministry of industrial information. In the same year, it entered the ranks of high-level universities in Shaanxi Province. In 2018, it entered the first-class discipline construction universities in Shaanxi Province. The discipline of information and communication engineering was listed as the first-class construction in Shaanxi Province Set up disciplines.
In recent years, it has undertaken more than 300 national and provincial scientific research projects such as the National Natural Science Foundation, the National Social Science Foundation and the major national science and technology projects, and won more than 40 national and provincial scientific and technological achievements awards. Among them, "40Gbit / s SDH (STM-256) optical fiber communication equipment and system", "TD-SCDMA Base station system key technology research, equipment development and industrialization" have successively won the second prize of national science and technology progress, "Hufu TEPA network security international standard key technology and its application" has been approved as an international standard by the international organization for Standardization (ISO / IEC). In recent years, the whole school has published more than 5000 papers, including more than 1500 papers collected by SCI and EI, more than 500 national patents and software copyrights, and more than 400 publications and textbooks.
