Studies have shown that due to the volatility of D4, cyclomethicone released into the air can be detected when using (or producing) cosmetics such as shampoo and deodorant.
Cyclic volatile methylsiloxanes are chemically stable and can be retained in the environment for a long time after being released into the air, and diffuse through flowing air and water to reach polar regions.
Due to their widespread use, a large amount of cyclic volatile methylsiloxanes enter the atmosphere, water bodies and other environments. Experiments have shown that D4, which can diffuse and drift, is highly toxic to aquatic organisms.
