In terms of environmental safety, silicone oils used in personal care and cosmetics account for only a very small part of silicone oil use, and they will degrade into silicon dioxide, water and carbon dioxide through photoinduced oxidation and biodegradation, and will not affect the ozone layer or greenhouse effect. Silicone oils used in cosmetics have passed the national standardization organization, the US FDA and the pharmacopoeia biocompatibility test. Generally, as long as the silicone oil we use is obtained with purity standards and the production equipment is clean, it is considered safe and non-toxic in the environment. However, compared with various natural oils, silicone oils degrade relatively slowly in nature, and the risks to some aquatic organisms have not been widely evaluated. Therefore, from the perspective of the development requirements of a sustainable society, silicone oil ingredients are not a particularly good choice.
