Silicone oil products and silicone oil-free products are not simply removing silicone oil from the product ingredient list. The change of one ingredient in a cosmetic product may change or replace the dosage of other substances in the system, or add substances that may cause irritation. This article focuses on the analysis of silicone oil-containing and silicone oil-free shampoos. There are some silicone oil-free shampoos on the market that use the same or similar surfactant systems as silicone oil shampoos. Compared with silicone oil shampoos, this type of shampoos are not very competitive. Since a small amount of silicone oil added to hair products can reduce the irritation of surfactants to the scalp (but silicone oil itself will have a certain degree of effect on the scalp), silicone oil-free shampoos should use less irritating and milder surfactants. As for milder shampoos, amino acid surfactants are a good choice.
